Spider's Lair
Lens: Irix 150mm f2.8 Dragonfly Macro Camera: K-3II Photo Location: Boerne, TX ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/6s Aperture: F14
Posted By: ToddK, 04-15-2022, 08:56 AM

I tried focus stacking this tiny spider that built a web on my lawn. I took eight shots, but I probably should have taken several more since I am seeing a few blurred areas. I think I might try it again at a bit higher ISO and a faster shutter speed. There was probably a bit of vibration from a slight breeze on the web even though I couldn't see it. Anyway, I always have fun taking these kinds of shots.

Looks great to me Todd. Those water droplets on the web form nice framing for the detailed shot of the spider. I'm viewing on my phone since we are at a Volleyball tournament in KC this weekend.

Completely impressive, Todd!
And impressive also regarding the amount of work you put into that image!
(Perhaps I should say, it's impressive that your back and knees allow this much torture! )
Your 35mm might have saved a lot of focus stacking.
But this is one fantastic evidence of how well that Irix glass can perform!
And how well your eye can work with the weather to see such.
Angky.

Thanks Angky! I am not sure the spider would have liked the 35mm in its face, and it would have blocked off the light completely. However, it would have helped greatly with depth of field. I used my travel tripod and live view, so the contortions were minimal.

Maybe it is really worth framing the photo of this monster a bit tighter, but it still looks pretty scary Congratulations!
