Interstate-5 blocked for 2 hours because of a tanker explosion 2 miles ahead ...
Lens: DA 16-45 mm f/4 AL Camera: Pentax K5 Photo Location: California ISO: 100

I was traveling on northbound Interstate-5 towards the Tejon Pass to leave the Los Angeles Basin when suddenly traffic stopped. I was just east of Dodgers Stadium, Chavez Ravine and the Civic Center. Nobody moved for a couple of hours and radio station KNX 1070 finally announced a tanker truck had just exploded in a tunnel a couple of miles ahead of where I was. Officers of the California Highway Patrol made us exit on US 2 then towards Highway 210 to go around the "situation". The temperature was 90 degrees F and the sun was hitting hard, just after noon. Not surprising people get mad on these permanently clogged highways.

I do not miss living in the LA area. I remember being stranded a few times for hours.

Certainly is not an unknown situation!!!
Most learn to get mad; few learn to drive!

Vivid pictures of memories, eh?

Two hours is nothing, it took two days to clear the M25 orbital motorway of cooking oil recently.

Once I was traveling south on Interstate-5 towards San Diego. The traffic came to a halt and we all had to keep waiting. I was listening to a San Diego radio station and they said the "Interstate-5 situation" was "hopeless" and recommended people to exit the highway if they could. I was in Delmar and the exit was 500 feet ahead, so I reached US Route 1 (El Camino Real) and proceeded south towards Torrey Pines and La Jolla.
