Swift Parrots

Sadly, there's only about 300 of these birds left in the wild. They have been wiped out by Sugar Gliders, which were introduced to Tasmania by humans (why, I have no idea).

Beautiful parrot. Its a shame that the gliders were introduced to Tasmania, but not a surprise. Another mis-adventure with a bad ending. Thanks for posting.

Thanks! It goes to show that even native animals in the wrong place can become a problem.

Strangely, the national recovery plan doesn't mention predation by gliders, but they are a major threat.

Another threatened species landed on a branch so she could more easily be photographed - a Superb Parrot.

What beautiful birds. You're fortunate to live in a place with such exotic creatures.

Another beautiful parrot. Great capture. I hope that these species can rebound.

Thank you Mike! I hope so too. The fires a couple of years ago didn't help.
