Thank you for the comment, and welcome to the forum! If you wish, here's a suggestion you can try:
Set your camera for spot metering, and meter on the moon. Depending on how bright the moon is (proximity to horizon, clouds, etc.), you may need some "+" exposure compensation. I use manual mode, so that once the exposure is set, I can recompose without the exposure changing. Verify the exposure with the histogram. Hope that helps.
Also, if you shoot raw, you have more latitude to bring out the details in post processing.
