Lens: smc PENTAX-DA* 16-50mm F2.8 ED AL [IF] SDM Camera: Pentax K-3iii Photo Location: Hobart, Tasmania ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1s Aperture: F14

I've been trying for sometime to achieve the look of a soft water surface at this location. In this case, I stopped down to f14, placed a 2x and 3x ND filter in the holder attached to my smc DA* 16-50, and ran five shots through the K-3iii, set to averaging, and this is the result:

After a little processing in Camera RAW, I realised the background sailing vessels had moved during the exposures, so I had to copy and paste from a reference single shot that I'd taken at the same time.

Nice work. I like your composition, and the water came out nice and smooth.

Good work to achieve the final image. The water did come of nice and smooth with a soft sheen. Nicely composed image.

Thanks for your comments, @ToddK and @MikeNArk. Close inspection reveals that I’ve got some extra work to do in the transition zones, but that can wait for another day.

Beautifully captured, I’ve often thought of trying to take a similar image when driving past this location![COLOR="Silver"]

Thanks, Sam. I did the same for a long time, but finally stopped and did it. I tried various times in different lighting and with both the K-1 and the K-3iii, but with this one I found the combination of ND filters and the averaging setting in the K-3iii to give the best result, but there was still a fair bit to do in PS for the distant parts of the scene. Fortunately, I had a single reference shot to overlay the boats and clouds. Tripod essential, of course.
