Just one... A Morning Inspiration
Posted By: Marc Langille, 12-17-2008, 06:08 PM

With a "crappy" lens - the DA 50-200...

A variant of a post from 2007... found an earlier shot from the same day, when the sun was much redder and lower on the horizon:

K10D + DA 50-200 w/monopod.

EXIF: SmugMug Photo Sharing. Your photos look better here.

I spent about 10 minutes at the edge of this open field watching the mist drift across the field, and the sun slowly rising. It's really hard to describe! The vehicles passing by must have thought I was a loon...

Cheers,
Marc

Endless Fun

This is a great shot.

With all that varying tone to play with if this were my image I would process it once a month for years going for different looks and feels.

I have a couple images I like to play with over and over again.

Thanks for the beautiful shot.

Very nice indeed.
Looked like a tough metering exercise.
The results are mysteriously brilliant.

That is a hell of a shot. The scenery is priceless. I would love that shot in my port folio!

wow, what a fantastic shot! I love the change in tone of the fog as you go down the picture. And the color of the sun just makes it... well done!
I really appreciate that vagrant10! It's one of two favorites, although I have several, and need to go through all of them.

Great picture, Marc. A few years ago there was a big wildfire nearby and the sun looked a lot like it does in your picture.

Joe, I want to say thank you for the comments and my honor. This image and it's sibling were very tough for the print tech to get it printed correctly - often too dark!

Marc

Thank you Ash!

It took some time to get the right shot. What I did is meter the rising sun, and then re-composed the shot for the right framing. No cropping.

James, that is very kind of you! I am so glad I decided to be late! I would have missed the 8-10 minutes I spent shooting the scene, waiting for the right shots.

Marc

Thank you! Sometimes the lens surprises me, and it must be stopped down for the landscape images to come out well. The only downside is that it's too light for windy days if I am using a tripod, etc. since the resonance/vibration the wind creates will slightly blur the image.
