Blue water photographed with a Pentax K3 III + DA 12-24 mm f/4 ED AL, QUEBEC.
Lens: DA 12-24 mm f/4 ED AL Camera: Pentax K3 III Photo Location: Quebec, CANADA ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F11

Three images taken @ 12 mm, 18 mm and 24 mm respectively with a K3 III + DA 12-24 mm f/4 zoom. The orientation of the light was perfect on one of the longest days of the year (June 25th). We just had a week of intense precipitations, so the water level was very high and the "roar" of the river was deafening. This scene is my "benchmark" for testing cameras and lenses. I think the DA 12-24 mm passes with "flying colors". After taking these pictures using the "VIBRANT" color palette, I decided to "hold my colors in check" from now on and changed to the "LANDSCAPE" setting. We'll see if there is a big difference eventually ...

Very nice work.
Interesting to see the sky and water actually become more blue with the wider lens setting. And, yes, I find the "Vibrant" color setting a bit too much for my taste.
Looks like a great lens. I ususally shy away from the zoom lenses, but I've been looking for a wider lens. This may be one for me to try. Thanks for your submittal.

Good shots. In this instance, I like the 24mm shot best. To me, this shot has the better balance and shows less of the yellow tinted water. Glad you are enjoying the K-3-III. The 12-24 performed well, also.

I would say you lucked out in finding such a wonderful test track for your gear. Which by the way, is obviously a very high quality set up. Bravo Maestro! Each one is certainly a prize winner.

Many thanks for the superb photography.

Tony

THX !

Everybody keeps telling me this river can't be this blue ... well, it is. I tried all the "color palettes" on my 645Z medium-format camera with DFA 55 mm f/2.8 ED and the water surface always appeared "BLUE" (Reversal film, Bright, Landscape, Vibrant, Radiant, etc). I lessened the "saturation" on my new K3 III from "Vibrant" to "Landscape". Less yellow and less blue, but still blue ... SIGH !

Regards

Interesting series of tests. Gives me a bit of perspective on my shots and my equipment.

There is nothing I like more than fiddling with my photo equipment. This way, you always discover something new every time you play with a control or acquire new gadgets. For example, when I saw an ad for a 645 Auto Bellows, I jumped on the occasion. I can use either P645 or P67 lenses up front and I can fit the bellows on my 645Z or on a K mount body : the best of both worlds. I haven't finished trying all my lenses on my new K3 III body yet and I love tinkering with my material.

Regards
