View of Interstate-40 from the overpass in Petrified Forest Nat'l Park. The row of dark electric posts on the right of the image follows the original alignment of old Route 66.

Well Richard, that gives a good perspective of how close the old route was to Interstate 40. At least in this area, the routes are quite close.

This is a very nice, scenic image Richard. I really like that you take the time to stop and photograph scenes like this with the highways that crisscross through the west.

Interstate-40 closely follows the alignment of old Route 66 in the western States. Taking a few pictures of highways tells part of the story of traveling to a new country. Plus a monsoon storm was brewing just west of where I was standing and created these menacing skies.
