Detail of the front of Sainte Famille (Isle d'Orleans) parochial Church about to be demolished because of advanced deterioration. The building has been deemed dangerous and beyond repair, so it should be torn down soon before it collapses under its own weight. Pentax K3 III + HD DA 55-300 mm f/4-5.8 ED WR @ f/11, 135 mm FL, handheld. The Latin inscription above the front doors means "Here is God's House".

Nice capture, Richard. It's a nice looking church front. It's a shame that it can't be saved. Is 1749 the date the church was built or the founding date of the parish?

The Parish was founded in 1745 and the Church inaugurated in 1749. Few people still go to Mass except on Easter and Christmas, so they lack the necessary money to maintain these old buildings. Water seeps through the roof and snow loads do the rest each year after year.

Nice capture of a fleeting thing!
I've marveled at many old religious structures--at how they gradually deteriorate--and wondered what the significance of them is.
For only a few generations are their people consistent in participating in them. Then their meaning is forgotten.
Glad to see your image before this one disappears.
Angky.

Hey, not too bad for a 275 year old wood and stone building ! Catholics have deserted their churches so it's not surprising some of the old buildings fall in disrepair. I take pictures of these old "relics" before they all disappear.
