While I was on the back deck, this Red Bellied Woodpecker flew in to get some bird seed. When it saw me, it couldn't wait to get away. Five images, 3 closeup and 2 up in a tree.

Thanks for your comments, Tony. I don't often get a chance to photo these birds closeup.

Nice series, Mike. We have a lot of these characters around here, but generally I hear them at their work rather than see 'em.

Thanks, Jer. They are year round residents around here, along with the Downey woodpeckers. They seldom hang around very close when I'm outside.

Thank you. I also like the woodpeckers. Except for colors, these look a lot like the Gila woodpeckers.

Thank you, Todd. These woodpeckers do have nice markings. When it landed that close to me, I had to get some shots. I took four shots of it at this range before it let the scene.

Looks like you did some very quick work with a camera!
Gives some good sharp details to really see what the bird looks like.

Thank you, Angky. With birds, sometimes you have to take the shots when you can. As I recall, I was waiting for hummingbirds to show up when the woodpecker crashed into the scene. Glad that you like the images.

Thanks much. That black and white pattern plus the patches of red made them noticeable. These guys rule the feeder when they arrive.
