Hi. It looks like your focus is a hair off or you had a little motion at capture. Was this a hand held shot? If so that might explain it shooting at 1/10th of a second. You have a lot of good elements in this image.

Oh yeah this was pretty tough to shoot! The light wasn’t bright and I wanted to keep the ISO low, so 1/10sec shutter speed! I was using a tripod, but the ground was soft and saturated, plus a tiny breeze came up to make things more difficult!! Still, it’s a fun challenge, and I appreciate your comments and advice! Thank you for viewing!

No advice, just observations. Sometimes, shooting conditions make it difficult. A faster shutter speed may have helped, but you probably would have to open the aperture more to get your desired ISO. The KP can produce pretty good results at higher ISOs, but I try keeping it as low as possible. Since I shoot hand held most of the time, I am prone to shooting with more open aperture and faster shutter speeds.

Yes I tried some shots with a wider aperture, but the DOF was too shallow to get enough detail on the spider. As always, compromises!

That was a very good result for such a slow shutter speed even with a tripod. If they move at all it will cause some blur. Nicely done!

I have an earlier version of that lens, and love it. I found this DOF calculator to be helpful when I noticed how shallow the DOF can be with this lens.
A Flexible Depth of Field Calculator

There are others on the net as well; which one you prefer is your call. For this one, use a camera type of 'Digital SLR with CF of 1.5X'. The lens is capable of super sharp images under the right conditions.

Thank you for the reference! The article looks very interesting aside from the actual calculator.

All the thoughtful perspectives about shooting with this lens are great.
But even aside from those, the shot itself is great in showing that spider in his environment.
Angky.
