At least that's what I think it is based on other people's posts. Not a fabulous shot; didn't have the best lens on. Just grabbed him while I could.

A nice picture, I use that camera a lot with a DA 18-250mm. Keep posting.

Thanks rhanz. I had the 50mm lens on to shoot some toadstools in the yard. Just noticed the dragonfly as I was returning to the house. Would have preferred to shoot this with my 100mm macro. He probably would have been gone by the time I switched lenses (or grabbed the KP which had the 100mm on). So, just snapped him and hoped for the best.

That 50mm lens has done that very same kind of job many, many times in this world.
Always comes through with good images.
You picked up a good rendition of this colorful insect.
Angky.

You did well with the 50mm lens. I usually use a 400mm lens for dragonfly shots. A pretty capture against the background blur.

I think it came out quite nice. Too often I get caught up in trying to get as close in as possible to fill the frame with the bug, but it is a nice perspective to see more background and the environment around it.

Many thanks for the kind comments y'all. I'm a big fan of the Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7. The camera was only set for a 6MP capture since I had just been shooting bigger subjects, and I wanted to be able to crop them for posting here. If I had switched to a 10MP capture for the dragonfly, I could have cropped tighter and gotten more detail. But, it was just a quick snap before he got away. Like ToddK said, having the subject in a little more context can be a good thing. I thought twice about posting it, but I'm glad some of you enjoyed it.
