St. Boniface Church
Lens: Tamron 70-200mm Camera: K-3 Photo Location: New Vienna, Iowa

St. Boniface Church, New Vienna, Iowa rising up out of the corn. The Field of Dreams is about 2-miles away from where I am standing.

The limestone was quarried in the 1880s from the farm my wife's grandfather would eventually purchase. You might say he bought a rock farm. The quarry closed long before I met her; probably before her family acquired the farm. A cave was discovered on the farm in the 1960s which brought some spelunkers with diving suits onto the property.

This photo is taken from the farm she grew up on. The church is about 1.25 miles or so in the distance. Too bad it wasn't a sunny day; it is a beautiful church.

It is a beautiful church in this lighting. Great architecture. It's interesting to me, because there is a St. Boniface Church near Houston, Arkansas, built with a tall spire. It was probably modeled after this church on a smaller scale. Different building materials were also used. Thanks much for posting this interesting image.

Thank you and in addition to the history I described, I have some personal history here. My wife and I were married here.

I am an attorney. I am prone to asking questions, especially when someone has control over the next few minutes of my life. Since I litigate people's worst moments, which I acutely try to avoid, my typical question in this scenario is, "What is the worst thing that could happen here?"

So, as I waited with Father R. and my best man, et. al. at the front of the church for my future wife to be escorted by her dad up the aisle, I said, "Father, what is worst thing that could happen here?" He spontaneously replied, "Don't forget the ring." Further he said, "I had a best man who when the time came for the ring, I said, 'Hand the ring to the groom.' The best man searches his pockets and replied, 'I don't have it.' " Father R. said, "Where is it?" The best man replied, "It's in the car." Fr. R. said, "Well, go get it."

My best man managed to avoid disaster.

Very nice image of a beautiful church. I really like the rural setting. It is difficult to find churches without being surrounded by other buildings. Thanks for sharing the history and your story about your wedding day!

Thanks. I never recalled seeing the church from the farm in the past -- maybe because there was a school building across the street since removed that would have stood in front of this camera angle. Houses in the foreground are hidden by the hill and standing corn. I was just amazed at what I saw and had the right camera and lens. After the sun went down the church exterior was lit. But I didn't have everything. I didn't have my tripod.
