Red Bellied Woodpecker
Lens: Sigma 135-400 APO Camera: Pentax KP Photo Location: Yard ISO: 1250 Shutter Speed: 1/80s Aperture: F5.6

This Red Bellied Woodpecker crashed into the window pane on our deck. He ended up in a pot below the window, stunned. After I took a few photos, happily he flew away to a nearby tree.

Glad to heir that he survived, and also you captured a nice picture. Thanks for posting it.

Thank you. I was glad to see the woodpecker fly off also. It sat in that pot a while.

Thanks Angky. If it hadn't been stunned, I wouldn't have been able to get that close for a shot. I was really glad that he flew off.

Thank you. It was not in direct sunlight, hence the slower speed. I tend to shoot higher shutter speeds @ 400mm.

Thanks, Jer. Our house has lots of windows and we have occasional collisions, but most have little consequence.

So that explains why he is perched in a pot!!
On first viewing, before any reading, my thoughts were "Does he thinks he is on a nest, ..or... maybe on a toilet bowl??"

Whatever, the whole scene has made for a very pretty picture, with excellent detail, especially on the bird's head.

Glad to hear it recovered and flew away - hopefully without any concussion after-effects!

Thanks for your comments. I guess that woodpecker sitting in a pot does look a little odd. It did make for a nice shot that I couldn't have obtained otherwise and it seemed OK after a short while.
