Rainbow Lorikeet Preparing to Land

My first ever half-way decent shot of this bird in flight.

It seems all the local birds in the neighbourhood are declaring it is spring, and their noise had tempted me down from my house to the road. Honeyeaters, wrens, friarbirds, lorikeets - they were all flitting to and fro up and down the street.

And I caught this.

Great catch. I can imagine how difficult it is to get a bird like this in flight. They don't give you a flight plan before take off. I love the color displayed by by this bird and you also captured nice details. I may need to bump my shutter speed up a bit and try this.

In this case, Mike, I was lucky - I did get a "flight plan". The lorikeets were actually flying from a tree/bush on one side of the street to a tree/bush exactly opposite on the other side of the street, and at fairly frequent intervals. So I was able to line myself up and be ready for the next "street crossing". Cheating, I know. But normally these birds are very fast flyers.

Fantastic capture Peter! Even knowing where they are going, it is not easy to get such a good image as this. I watched them flying in Sydney, and they are explosive and quick flyers.
