Shooting a Hummingbird from Close Range
Lens: DA*300 w/HD 1.4x Teleconverter Camera: K-3II Photo Location: Backyard ISO: 320 Shutter Speed: 1/1000s Aperture: F8
Posted By: ToddK, 09-25-2022, 04:59 AM

I was photographing butterflies in a backyard shrub when a juvenile Ruby Throated Hummingbird decided to feed right next to me about 4 feet from the end of my lens. I was only able to get a few shots with the entire bird in the frame, and that was after backing off a step. It hung around long enough for me to take over 20 shots, but many were too close or out of focus. These are the best of the lot.

Good shots, Todd. You achieved good focus in those closeups. Looks like good light helped. I like those flowers that the hummingbird was feeding on, also. Well done.

Thanks Mike! Good light was a real help, and luckily I had the right settings when it showed up.
