Superb is the correct description. Wonderful series of wildlife images. Besides the Superb Fairy-wren, I particularly like the duck, kookaburra and mandible images. That Platypus is interesting, also.

Thanks Mike! It's the beginning of the mating season, so the Fairy-wren has his nicest suit on to impress the ladies. The duck, kookaburra and Bull-ant shots were all opportunities that appeared along the walk. I spent at least half an hour (maybe an hour) waiting for the Platypus to make an appearance. He has taken to swimming under the boardwalk where he's invisible except for ripples, but did make an appearance when things got quiet toward the end of the day. I have a bit of video which I'll link if I can get it edited together.

Koalas are my fave! Love 'em! I've heard that, because their diet is almost exclusively eucalyptus, they smell like cough drops. The zoo here has several koalas, and their eucalyptus has to be imported. While we do have some eucalypts that grow here, the ones koalas prefer don't, so the zoo can't grow their food.
Wonderful series of images, Rob, TFS!

Scrolling down from one image to the other, and each turn of the scroll wheel produces another surprise!

Thanks! My partner is crazy about them, so I have to send her a photo every time I visit Tidbinbilla. I recently found out that there's wild Koalas very close to Canberra, which was a surprise. I thought that they were only closer to the coast in this part of Oz. Sadly, the wild populations have suffered badly in the bushfires at the end of the drought. I think the first zoo overseas to have Koalas was San Diego. I've seen Australian eucalypts in California, but I don't think that they are the right kind, as you say.

Thanks Todd! Luckily I was reasonably close and the Kookaburra is a big bird. I think it might be the world's biggest Kingfisher?

I know, the news reports about that broke my heart. So many perished, or had to be euthanized because of their injuries. Awful, just awful.

Sadly, the approach was generally to stop the fires if they threatened human property or lives, but they let the national parks burn.

That is very sad, but similar decisions have been made here during our fire season. Alas.
