Traveling south on Interstate-15, this is the first view you get on Las Vegas. The city lies at the bottom of a hot valley surrounded by mountains. Canon G3X with integrated ND filter in place.

Nice shot from a distance. The downtown area looks pretty wide but not real deep. Haven't been there. Thanks for posting.

Thanks !

Essentially, all we see is the "Las Vegas Strip" from north (white Stratosphere Tower) to south (black Luxor Pyramid), where most high-stakes Casinos and Hotels are located. Apart from Las Vegas Boulevard, the rest of the city resembles a typical nice American suburb with plenty of greenery, wide avenues and clean colorful buildings everywhere. I particularly explored the western part of the city (Summerlin) where my friend lives. Las Vegas has a square layout and measures 17 miles by 17 miles. Interstate-15 runs through the city parallel to the Las Vegas Strip.

An interesting shot that (almost) makes Las Vegas a place one would want to visit.
(Have been there--for work--far too many times to retain any lasting interest--sorry!)
At any rate, your shot provides a good perspective of the city that can retrieve good memories for you.

I never slept in the Las Vegas proper (except once in Henderson). I always climb Mount Charleston nearby and take a camping site in Lee Canyon or even higher in the campgrounds near the Ski Resort. Up in the mountain, the temperature is 30 degrees F cooler than in the Las Vegas valley and you have views all around to die for.
