My wife and I saw this multi-colored yellow butterfly while out for a walk at the nature preserve. Phone app shows it as a Southern Dogface. A few views here.

Interesting, Mike. Can't sat I've ever even heard of this one, let alone seen one! The pickerel weed is familiar, though...it grows here, too.

Thanks for commenting, Julie. When I looked these up, they seemed to be pretty common. Some of the more colorful images indicated fall coloring. Maybe I had not noticed the fall colors before.

Yes, I see that now. I'll have to pay more attention! Beautiful shots!

What an interesting butterfly--with its mellow pastel color blends.
Even includes green!
Great images!

This is a beautiful butterfly with markings that I have never seen before. You definitely did this little beauty justice with your great shots!

Thank you very much, Angky. This is first for me also. They are supposed to be fairly common, but I don't recall every seeing one with this mix of colors.

Thank you so much also, Todd. I have been using the K-5IIs with the Sigma 170-500 lately just as a change of pace. I forgot how much that I liked it before getting the KP. Anyway, most of the butterflies seem to have migrated out of here. Slim pickings at the nature preserve, but I have some recent unprocessed photos that I've not posted yet. Hope you continue to get your variety.
