the "Mouse"

I'm in happy mode 😁, what do you think😳?

With the SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro and SMC Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8 ED AL [IF] SDM on the way to snap onto a K20D I thought I'd experiment with the 15 year old K10D with 64000+ clicks on it of, with the then kit SMC DA 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 AL (not DA-L!!!!) and.. wait for it... with Master/Slave two AF540-FGZ flash beasts 🙂

The first craziness was to shoot Mickey at f40 aperture (!!!!!!!), 1/160s speed (!!!) and ISO100 in a very dark office (OMG!!!). All I did when converting from DNG to TIFF/16bit was to raise the EV to +0.5

The second craziness was to take a portrait of "Mouse" at f5.6 which is the brightest at 55mm of the lens on a shady balcony and put "Scene:Pet" on White Balance through the native program for RAW (ie from DNG) the Digital Camera Utility 5 (which is slow but 100 times superior to EVERYTHING, be it Lightroom, Photoshop or iMac Photography)

I don't know about you but I had my fun, and didn't experiment with my love for portraits, the SMC Pentax-DA 70mm F2.4 Limited since it doesn't focus below 70cm.

PS: Ever since I got the K20D I've been selling the K10D and the kit lenses I was deprecating in vain or one of the 540 flashes. Now? No way!!!

PS2: Pentax, I will always love you ❤️

I've never owned the K-10D, but from what I've read on this forum, most users will never part with that camera. Glad you had fun creating these shots. Thanks for the narrative and the photos.

I wish they would re-create that K10D with a higher pixel count on a CCD.
Really do love what that camera can do--even with its limitations.
The darkness of the cat's environment didn't result in any bothersome noise--which the K10D has a penchant for.
I guess the double flashes had a lot to do with that.
The double catch-lights in the cat's eyes are a bit startling--interesting shot.
Angky.

Hi! K20D is actually a K10D with a bigger CMOS. And I bought an extra body as if I was buying an upgraded K10D.

The kitten was shot using ISO 100, speed 1/160 thanks for the two speed lights.

The double catch lights are indeed startling but I guess in a positive way 🤩

It’s the native RAW reader for pentax and yes I have seen huge difference in the way it manages the sensor data ie DNG and even the starting colors are different. I was shocked when I first realized what I was missing.

The K20D has a CMOS image sensor, not a CCD.
