Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum

After quite an uncomfortably long travel dry spell, my wife and I visited the Naples area a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic food and wine, great weather, amazing history and scenery. This didn't start out to be a 21mm Ltd thread but it seems to have worked out that way. I used the lens a lot on this trip.

Wagon/chariot wheel ruts in Pompeii. Hard to imagine the bustling place this once was:

Some people believe this is Vlad the Impaler's tomb (in Naples):

Looks like you had a great time. We could have used Vlad the Impaler on our side when we went, as Pompeii was packed with people.

Very nice images from what must have been a wonderful trip. That is a terrific shot of Vesuvius from across the bay.

There were a lot of people at Pompeii but it wasn't too bad, really. The Amalfi coast, on the other hand, was absolutely ridiculous. I would not have gone if I'd had any idea...

Excellent series of shots from in and around Pompeii, a terrific site. It's amazing how much of this site was preserved as it was covered with volcanic ash.
