Sculpting a Mountain
Lens: GR Lens 18.3mm f2.8 Camera: GR II Photo Location: Virginia ISO: 1000 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F8

Part of the 300 million dollar project to widen Route 58 over Lovers Leap Mountain in Virginia, this scene shows the amount of digging and sculpting it takes to build a four-lane road across a mountain. The views are stupendous, and the new road will make stopping to view them safer. My wife was scared stiff when I pulled off for this shot. I opted for a quick couple of shots with the GR rather than taking the time to change lenses on my KP. This section of Route 58 is called Cloud Break Road.

Nice image from a terrific vantage point to view the construction as well as the layered hills in the distance. It looks like they have quite a way to go before the highway is finished.

Terrific image. It shows the dramatic changes in the construction area compared to the untouched areas. Hopefully, after the project is complete, regrowth will make the area blend with the environment.

I could have spent hours there finding other views. Plans call for the project to end in four more years.

It was weird to see all the sculpting going on, like they were rebuilding parts of the mountiain. I thought it was for houses at first.
