We had a Bald Eagle hangin' out in our area today. Saw him several times while out running errands, and then he decided to rest awhile at a farm across the street from our subdivision. These shots were taken with K100D and Promaster 70-300 @ 300mm. Very gloomy overcast day, so getting the colors was a challenge. I had the camera on the monopod, but only the first shot had it actually touching the ground, the rest of them it was just acting as a counterweight :-) Not too bad results-wise, though :-)

Although, any comments on how to shoot dark objects against overcast skies would be welcome!

It's always a thrill to see an Eagle up close, he must be looking for a nice rat to eat I don't think he'd tangle with a farm cat. Overcast skies are tough for BIF shots especially a dark bird like an eagle any fringing will really show up too with the bird against the clouds. I usually use manual metering so the bird is exposed but the sky gets blown out. Sometimes I just go home when it gets like that
