interesting depiction of the female colors--also quite beautiful as muted colors.

I have never seen a yellow female cardinal with red intonation. That said, I have not seen this bird. In Iowa, our female cardinals who visit our feeder are entirely gray except red intonations especially in the crest.

We are farther north than you. Are southwestern cardinals designated as northern cardinals, and have different coloration?

Terrific captures. The females in our area in Texas have colors very similar to this one.

They are still called Northern Cardinals. This female exhibited the most pale yellow coloration that I have seen. I assume that diet plays a role in this.
