Playing with f/1.2
Posted By: jsherman999, 12-28-2008, 04:18 PM

Few more snapshots from the Cosina 55 f/1.2, all wide-open unless otherwise noted.

The f/1.2 + SR allows handheld ISO 200 shots in the dark!

This bird is at f/1.2, the second is stopped down one:

This is wide open, the next is stopped down one - I'm really impressed with
the sharpness one stop down:

Looks good to me. The color is good and I think the bokeh is fine. Thank you for sharing.

One stop down the lens looks a cracker. Can still have fun with it wide open, as well. Nice pics, Jay...been waiting for you to show the results from this Christmas present.

Interesting those sharp edges on the bokeh in pic no1, where the light dots are lying across each other. Never saw that before as far as I can recollect.

Isn't it nice to have narrow depth of field?

Great shots!

Personally, After seeing many of your images, I am convinced that you can use a card board box with a hole and get the same results...Well done!

Beautiful images, I like the colour rendering!

BTW, when you stop down from 1.2 does this lens mechanically stop to 1.4 or to 2, when you you click it down one step? I ask because I have one 1.2 lens too from Porst.

Thanks for the compliments, I think I have a ways to go before I fully master this
lens, though.

Gawan, mine goes directy from 1.2 to 2, but hinman just told me he often moves
it to a middle position between 1.2 and 2, meters and shoots - I tried it tonight,
and indeed it works - slightly smaller aperture, maybe 1.4 or 1.7 depending on
where you 'stop' it between clicks.

Here's some more 'shooting in the dark' fun wide-open:

Gary, I had to look up what "Sun Conure" was, for a second I thought you were
talking about one of the vases.

No, those birds were shot in a pet store - went in there to get cat food, saw the
birds, went back out to the car to get the camera to take some shots, got yelled
at by the clerk. Apparently the birds are like Sean Penn.

The more I use this lens, the more I like the bokeh and general phase-to-oof
rendering. It's a very fun-to-just-play-with lens.
