The K20 has a swell sensor
Posted By: Igilligan, 12-28-2008, 09:59 PM

I have stuggled with AF on a few lenses. (my spot on Da40 cannot focus to save its life)
But man when the MF lenses are used, or one of the AF lenses hits its mark. I really think this sensor is special.

I am still deciding if I should send it back for an exchange, or send it off to pentax to have the AF module looked at.
Tomorrow I will make that call I guess, but for now I love that sensor.

Iso 1600 with the tamron 28-75

Iso 800 with the Helios 44m

Iso 200 6sec exposure with tam 28-75

Iso 200 10 sec

Iso 3200 just to see what it looked like

And these I just like how they looked... or how it handled the scene

I end it with one I call "Wow that's good cough syrup"

Great series Gus. I am trying to decide if I should go with the K20 or wait on the next series early next. I may wait and if there is not a big improvement over the K20... will pay it... Cheers JIMBO

PS: love the Tamron 28-75 sharpness. I have this lens but it was lef ton top of a car roof and I drove away. I had to get the camera sent in for repair but I think I should have done the len too. The sharpness has not been the same since and this was my favorite len at one time. The front part of the lens is loose so I think it will be going in for repair. JIM

One of the great things about not using AF is that you're blissfully oblivious to what everybody bitches about regarding it.

Love the photos, especially that last one. It's a hoot!

Nice pics, Gus. #4 is excellent.
I agree, the K20D IQ is fantastic, but since I've had my lenses calibrated for AF, the IQ is stunning. Hope your AF is stored out asap and you get to enjoy the impressive results.

Thanks Daz... did I read your post in the other thread right? Did you send all your AF lenses along with your K20d to a pentax service center and they calibrated all of them for you?

Great series

Nice shots Gus!! Your model is very cute....

I really like the 4th one (black and what with the hair in her face).. The softness of it makes you want to reach out and pull her hair back... GREAT pic IMO..

Thanks for sharin... Happy New Year!! Kim

Wow Gus - great pictures and great attitude; you're more patient than I am.

Were I you, I'd send the camera back for a replacement. My new K20D focuses spot on with every lens I've tried thus far: DA's 16-45, 21, 40, 70 and FA 35. Something else that I haven't discovered may be wrong with it, but focusing is fine.

Hope you can painlessly sort it out.

Hey, good luck wit the K20D. If you go to "luminous-landscape.com" you will find a method for calibrating lenses. But if it is not too much trouble, you may want to do it at Pentax. On "http://theonlinephotographer.com/" there is write-ups on the K20 and calibration methods as well. Very good sites.

Magnificent images. Really like the 4th (bw child) and the one with the green leaves. What do you think it is that impresses you? The greater image sizes or just the quality of the images? Some claim that Pentax's dynamic range (not megasize) is as good or better than any on the market.

Great work Gus, congrats on the K20.
