Looks slightly soft, or maybe the processing is off?

Either way, I like the composition.

She is very pretty (no need for joke mode here)... and I agree with others that the photo looks a bit soft... Without seeing the exif information, I can't really guess why. Perhaps the focus is a bit off (which is easy with the shallow depth of field at f/2.8), perhaps there was a bit of camera shake or motion of the subject, maybe the shutter was actuated before the image stabilization was activated which can lead to blurring,... you get the idea...

Congrats on the lens, I'm getting one in a few days (can't wait).

It does seem a little sharper on the fur of the hood rather than her face, but it's still a favorite.

Camera was set:
ISO 100, 50mm, ƒ/2.8, 1/180 sec

edit: on-camera flash did fire as well

Oh and my g/f was flattered by the compliments

And the photo should stay your favorite. She is a pretty girl and she should also stay your favorite.

I agree... lovely subject with a great smile!

It's a fantastic lens, but at F/2.8, it can be a little soft when focus is not spot on.... such a wee depth of field! At F/4, it's razor sharp... I use it quite a bit for portraits at and near this aperture.

Starting with a girl that pretty I think you'd be hard pressed to name lens that would take a bad portrait of her. Goodness gracious, she's pretty.

P.S. You didn't make it clear which is the new toy

From my screen,
1. The subject looks OOF.
2. The background over-exposed.
3. The image doesn't have enough contrast, using a flash may helps.
4. The eye spark is important for a portrait.

Last but not least, she is pretty for sure.
