Northern Flicker with Bigma
Posted By: wa5am, 12-29-2008, 04:34 PM

I had to shoot through the window to get this Northern Flicker, as it would have surely flown off had I opened the door. K20D and Bigma @ 500mm. Had to do some work on these in PP because of the dirty window.

Thanks a lot folks! I was really not sure if I wanted to post them due to the circumstances they were taken. These are some of my first shots with the bigma, and I feel ashamed they were through a darn window!!

Thanks again.

Excellant capture of a Female Flicker. They have a tendency to be quite shy.
Don't feel bad about shooting through windows. I do quite frequent especially at my back yard feeder. Even that makes them somewhat skittish. Just get the lense close to the window glass to avoid reflections as much as possible.

Lovely pics, mate, nothing at all to be ashamed of. Great that you got the eyes clearly aware of you but the bird stayed put. You ust have timed the shots well.

Thanks Ivan. You are absolutely right, and I will practice on my stealth birding mode.

Thanks for the comments! She was very observant of every little movement.

Wow, given the conditions (dirty window, shaded area with uneven lighting), those images turned out nicely!

Morgan, in which part of AR do you reside? I am a bit west of Fayetteville.

Regards,
Marc

Hi Marc,

Thanks very much for the comments, and coming from you means a lot to me.

If you are familiar with the Conway area, I am about 15 miles east of Conway and due north of Little Rock about 43 miles in rural Faulkner County. As always, it's good to hear from another photographer in my area!

Regards,
Morgan

My honor Morgan. So I am guessing around the Marshall area, (not quite at but) near the Lower Buffalo Wilderness area?

Marc

That's a little more to the north and west of me Marc. Google Vilonia, AR and I am about 5 miles due north of that.
