When I was in my twenties, I wanted to go down into the depths of the Canyon perched on the back of a horse. Tours were offered but you had to weigh less than 200 pounds ... I was 240 at the age of 13 and spent my whole working years at a trim 275 (I am wide, muscular and very heavy), so I had to abandon the idea. They said hiking down the trail was not too bad but climbing up the next day was quite arduous. I never went down but I saw what I missed a few times in the pages of "ARIZONA HIGHWAYS". I've been a subscriber since September 1966.
