Butterflies...9 images
Posted By: sawtooth235, 12-29-2008, 08:19 PM

I went to the Florida Museum of Natural History today with my family. They have a butterfly exhibit there that my wife has been itching to see. If you like butterflies, you'll like these images. All were taken with K100D, either the kit lens or a Sigma 100mm-300mm f4.5-5.6 UC lens. This isn't the set-up I would choose for serious photograph taking, it was just a family outing.

I don't think they turned out too bad considering the lenses I had with me (they are both a little soft). What do you think?

Ray, I just have to wonder what you accomplish when you are serious! You did quite well with your set up. I wonder if you felt like I do when I am on a family outing. Hard to take time when someone is tapping their foot waiting next to you isn't it? I am not familiar with the lens you were using. It looks like it focuses very close for the focal length.

Yeah, but it is so nice and light that I can't resist using it in circumstances like this.

Roger,

And every one is native to Central or Southern Florida.

LOL, you hit that nail right on the head. The "Dad, you're embarassing me!" look is killer to your creative juices isn't it? The kit lens obviously focuses pretty close at 55mm (around 3-4 inches), but the Sigma won't go much closer than 8 feet (but at 300mm 8 feet looks pretty close).

Thank you all for your kind sentiments, have a Happy New Year.

Ray

Thanks Gary, I'm beginning to think about submitting it to the Pentax Gallery.

Thanks Sue, unfortunately there were some other very colorful ones that I just couldn't get a good shot of on this day.
