On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me
Posted By: Wombat, 12-30-2008, 04:02 AM

...koalas in a gum tree.

In case you don't know what this iconic Australian marsupial looks like, here's a female with a young one on her back, sitting pretty in a eucalyptus tree. My wife and I were out at a lavender farm today and the owner pointed out these two in a nearby tree. There was a strong wind blowing and the mother had chosen a tree that was barely more than a sapling, so it was quite hard to get in a decent shot with a telephoto hand held. Anyway, here they are, cuddly, soft, cute and sleepy. Aaaaaahhhhh.

Thanks, mate. I think I woke Mum up, but the little one was ready to boogie.

Thanks a lot. It was taken with the much-maligned Sigma 70-300 (non-APO). Maybe I got a freak good one, but I've always found this lens quite sharp, even at full extension. Of course, sometimes it needs a little help with software sharpening, but that's pretty standard shooting RAW.
