An eroding mesa seen in Petrified Forest Nat'l Park, AZ. There is a sign indicating "Do not attempt to climb". Who would try to climb such a steep bank ?
Pentax K1 + DFA 28-105 mm HD at 95 mm FL. Not bad for a "kit lens" ...

This is an excellent capture of an extraordinary bluff in the painted desert. What a colorful sight. Well done, Richard.

THX !

The sedimentary layers are still perceptible in this shale deposit. Clays deposited on the sea bottom for millions of years and are now getting exposed by present-day erosion. I'm sure fossils can be found in these mesas.

Like Mike said, a colorful sight!
Around here, in this very rough and tumbled granite country, people climb every last hunk of rock they can get on--even upside down!

Northen California has its own charms : the Pacific Ocean shore, Sequoias, the Sierra Nevada range and rolling hills covered with Oaks. In 2018, I wanted to visit San Francisco after getting out of Yosemite by the western entrance but, listening to KCBS traffic reports, I decided to abort this project. Instead I went to Marina and discovered the best restaurant anyone could hope for (the Round Table Pizzeria). They have the best buffet I ever found in the United States.

After that I went to Monterey and traveled down the Pacific Coast Highway (Rte 1) towards Los Angeles but a landslide had cut the road in Gorda. I found a mountain road that led me to Rte 101 and then headed south to Julian and Anza-Borrego.

Regards
