Something about this image (just one)

I had to PP it since he looked like he was straight out of the Civil War, and his clothing was very drab - minimal color...

Wonderful capture and lighting. The catch light on the right side eye is wonderful and subdued. The natural light around the face and beard is like a soft glow that invites the viewer to look at the whole image and reveal the subject's character.

Indeed Marc. This depicts exactly what I would imagine a lot of men around his age during the war actually looked and dressed like in this area. Have you read the book "The Rugged and Sublime"? For the most part, it's about the lives of just regular people living in Arkansas during the Civil War. I thought of that book as soon as I saw this image!

Great work!

Morgan
Thank you Morgan! I've not read the book, so perhaps I'll check it out in the local library.

Thanks again for the comments!

Hi James, thank you and it's been an image I kept coming back to again and again. I am very glad I finally got around to posting this image.

Let me know about the PM I sent you?

Marc

Wow Marc, his beard and the brim of his hat are the most lit yet your attention goes to his eyes. Wonderful composition.
Excellent and thank you very being so succinct in your comments! I was wondering if you saw what I wanted and hoped for with this image. Your post seems to prove/indicate that I was headed in the right direction in terms of what I hoped others to see.

Stunning image Marc. I love the look in his eyes. Looks like he's about to crack a joke. Wonderful PP work.

Thank you Salty. I agree about his eyes and expression - he was talking to someone and having a little chuckle. They were very obliging in letting several of us photograph them. Most reenactors are!

Sounds like you would fit in with this group or something...??

Absolutely! This picture is excellent - you can see the sense of humor in the man's eyes.

Actually, he reminds me of a guitar player I once gigged with; the man in picture has aged better than we have.

Mike, two years ago I had no clue who Matthew Brady was. When I first posted a shot of the Confederate Artillery battery firing, Eric C. made a similar comment.

You humble honor me very deeply with such words, now that I know who Matthew Brady is. Thank you.

Regards,
Marc

I've done well then JMR! Thank you so much for the comments and this means I've done well on what I wanted people to see. It's an image I really, really wanted to work on, he is indeed quite a character. I enjoyed talking with him. Very soft spoken and intelligent conversation.

Thank you Joe. It's definitely one of my favorites. I don't do a lot of portraiture, since I have other areas I like to delve into. However, I do wish to broaden my scope of skills in many kinds of photography, to ensure I really learn as much as possible. Luckily this is a lifelong journey!

Regards,
Marc
