From 2013 : Water LiLy Pool, Mission San Juan Capistrano, CALIFORNIA

Right in the middle of Mission San Juan Capistrano thrones a water pool covered with lilies and other water plants. A network of 21 California missions was established at the end of the 1770s by Spanish Padres to "christianize" the local Natives. Pentax K5 + DA 16-45 mm f/4 AL @ f/13 and 16 mm FL.

That's a lovely pool full of lily pads and other plants in bloom. A very good and colorful shot, Richard.

Very pretty image!
I often wish that the efforts of Serra's work on the natives had been as pretty as this!
But, I guess they just did what they knew to do in the culture of that time...
And they did leave some beautiful places.
Angky.

THX !

Most missions have amazing gardens. I didn't want to criticize the actions of the Spaniards concerning how the Natives were subdued or even decimated in the name of the Catholic religion.

Our French ancestors, also devout Catholics, tried to make friends with the northern Natives, learned from them how to survive in North America and even mingled with them.

The French "Voyageurs" discovered most of North America and left french names everywhere (Grands Tetons, Wyoming, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Terre Haute, Indiana, Nouvelle Orleans, Louisiana, Riviere à l'Anguille or Cap Girardeau, Missouri, Détroit, Michigan, Colonie, New York, innumerable names still in use all over the northern States).

Regards
