Actually, he's just doing the cat thing--claiming space for himself!
Tired of living room displays, now he's claiming the store-room.
We have one that looks just about like yours, and he tried to make a claim to my--MY, that is!--reloading bench!
Enjoy the battles and conflicts--at least they have soft fur when they have you firmly under their control.
