Back in Time over San Francisco Bay
Posted By: Damn Brit, 12-31-2008, 01:24 PM

The fog was making everything look soft and monotone. This and the Zeppelin flying around gave me the idea to try and give the shots a period feel.
I recommend looking at the larger versions.

The fourth one is remarkable. I wouldn't mind owning a huge print of that hanging on my wall.

Gary,

Great series! I especially like #3, #4, and #5.

Definitely best in B&W.

Gary those captures are absolutely first rate! A very artistic set. The foggy nostalgic black and white vibe is particularly effective. I especially like the last two. The last one is my favorite.

Now did you shoot those in black and white, or did you convert them in PP?

I really like this set of pics. You did a great job with your post-processing to get a vintage look.

If you don't mind sharing your tricks of the trade, I have two questions for you. Which lens did you use, and did you use a neutral density filter over the sky?

Great job and great idea.

Very cool. Looks like a backdrop from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

Exactly what I was thinking, though I thought of Crimson Skies... Same 1930's feel to it.

Thanks Morg, I don't think the Hindenburg is airworthy any more. I'm not sure if this one has a name.

Thanks for your comment. The lens was a thirty five year old screwmount Accura 200mm with an equally old 2xTC. No I didn't use a filter but I set WB to flash to give myself a head start for the processing.

So you're a game player Josh, I'll have to check that one out, my wife got a best buy giftcard and she was going to buy some XBOX360 games, I might ask her to get that one.

Gary.. those are definately different and yes you need to look at the larger versions to get a better feel of the photos. Can not pick a favorite.. I like them all for different reasons. JIM
