Return of the Snakes
Lens: Pentax F300 Camera: Pentax KP Photo Location: Hendrix Nature Preserve ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/320s Aperture: F6.7

To the Nature Preserve. On my last two visits to the Hendrix Nature Preserve, water snakes had returned in abundance. No poisonous snakes were noted, just Diamond Back and Brown water snakes enjoying the Spring time warm up. Six views. Enjoy?

Thank you for viewing and commenting. It's a relatively small nature preserve created in the city. The snakes have been enjoying the weather.

Thank you much. I think they are beautiful also, contrary to what many think. This nature preserve has mainly these two species and occasionally a Water Moccasin.

YW. I've always been an animal lover. The whole kit and kaboodle. Snakes, bears, wolves, deer, etc. I'm always careful around any wild animal.

Up here, we don't have any poisonous snakes in my province. We have the Garter snake , western hog nose, Smooth green snake and Northern redbelly snakes,.

I'm in the prairie provinces. I did live in Alberta before, and there is the Prairie Rattler.

Thanks, Todd. Lots of snakes were out, but I couldn't get good images of all of them. Fortunately, there is small dam and a bridge over the creek where the snakes congregate. It makes shooting easier.

A very nice series, Mike. Did being around so many snakes give you the "willies"?

Thank you, Jer. No. The snakes are usually below a small dam that was put in to make a pond on the nature preserve. The overflow on the dam flows into a creek. A walking bridge was built over this area and this allows you to view the snakes from above. All the snakes pictured were non poisonous. You still don't want to get bit. If you do, a tetanus shot would be advisable.
