Hike Around Lynx Lake
Lens: Pentax D FA 150-450mm Camera: K-3 III Photo Location: Lynx Lake, AZ

I was lucky to get the eagle shot at all. It flew along the shore and I saw it just in time to get the camera up. There were a bunch more blurry and partially in frame when it flew over. The Mandarin duck was still there this year.

Beautiful shots of the Mandarin duck. You did get the shot of the eagle, and looking at at it close, it had its eye on you. I don't know what the bird on the limb is, but it's a great capture with a good pose and attitude. Great series, David.

Outstanding captures David. The eagle shot came out very good, and the Mandarin duck is gorgeous.

Thanks Mike. According to Merlin, the small one is a Violet-green swallow. I've never seen one here before. I have others that didn't come out as good where the eagle was really eyeing me.

Thank you. The Mandarins just ask to be photographed.

Thank you. I actually had better luck on this lake while hiking than kayaking. Normally, it's the opposite.

When I was a kid, we had blue swallows on our barn, and green swallows flying out of our woods.
Naturally, we called the blue ones "barn swallows" and the green ones "tree swallows"!
I find the ducks very beautiful images.
The eagle shows something else that catches my eye--the left wing is quite differently extended from the right one.
Evidently, he uses different parts of the wings to control yaw and roll.
