K3 iii Pentax DA 560mm with 1.4TC combo with extension tube. i start experimenting with lens for a couple of months .
shooting with da560 it's a fun . i don't use tripod and all shots hand held . lens is long , but not heavy ( i was very surprised when i picked up the lens first time , how light is it )
then i add 1.4 tc , and again all shots hand hold with out any issies . most shots are tack sharp . when i'm adding TC , i usually increase the shutter speed up to one stop . after playing with 1.4 TC , I decided to add extension tube to get closer .
bought used TC , and i removed the glass ( as i t was recommended from PF member in discussion ). i'm in heaven right now . I'm posting the samples . i was very closet , especially to the duck . the distance was less than 2 feet , and around 3 feet from Heron .

Impressive images. I've often looked at the 560, but stay with the 150-450.

dfa 150-450 it's a beast lens . you can easily pair with 1.4 tc without any doubt . brilliant lens . my most used lens .

I can only repeat what David said "Impressive Images". I've never used extension tubes. These images have peaked my interest. Excellent detail and also, colors.

Looks really good, which TC did you end up de-glassing to make the extension tube, and did the AF still work properly with the DA560 ??

KENKO Pz-AF 2X TELEPLUS MC7 for Pentax K-Mount AF. I remove the glass, and AF works fine

Using the DA560 with a TC was always my plan, until my DA560 got sick under warranty and Ricoh/Pentax couldn’t seem to get it sorted, so they refunded it. I switched to the DFA150-450 plus TC and then moved to a K3-3 from my K1 for wildlife.

While I really loved the sharpness of the DA560, and agree that while it is long it is not heavy, I think in the end the 150-450 is better for what I shoot, (mostly birds). The reason for this is the vast improvement in minimum focus distance. It is really easy even when out shooting causally to try and focus on small birds especially, that you can get much closer to, but the DA560 cannot focus on.

I too shoot most shots hand held, and although weight never bothered me, there are some who will have issues even with the 150-450 this is about 1.2 kilos lighter
