This is a common plumage transition
Lens: DFA 150-450 Camera: K-3ii ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F6.3

I was told that male Redwings change to adult coloration somewhat gradually .

That's pretty cool. I don't think that I have seen one sporting these colors. Excellent shot to show its plumage.

Cool character nicely captured! Does he go from black-to-red or red-to-black? My ornithological knowledge is sorely lacking.
