Metamorphosis In Snow
Lens: HD Pentax DA 16-85mm Camera: K-70 Photo Location: High Sierra Nevada Mtns ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F8

Morph--change
Meta--mid point

Starts white & soft--covering the death of summer's growth.
Ends dark & muddy--and ready to grow green.

Why can't snow just remain white and soft?

This is somewhere around the mid-point of the transformation.
I guess the transformation is as interesting as is the initial--and as is also the terminal.
I just needed to stop and notice it.
Angky

(PS: Ummm... Question: Is my interpretation of Latin correct (above)?)

I don't know if the interpretation is correct or not. In looking up the terms, I found that "Meta’ comes from the Greek prefix and preposition meta, which means “after” or “beyond". So it may be the outcome of the change. I guess that water changing its form and appearance could fit. Nice shot of the snow slowly making its change to liquid.

PS. Where did you get this shot? We are close to 90 degrees here.

I also thought it was of Greek origin. Very nice capture there, Angky.

Morphosis actually is Greek, now that I recall some "ancient history" of my own!
We are in the 90s or higher here as well.
But above 7000 feet in the mountains the snow is still pretty deep in places--though rapidly melting, as seen in this image.
This was up in the 'famed' Donner Pass area.

Yes, You and Mike are correct!
Greek, not Latin!
Thanks for the correction.
Glad you appreciated the image.
Thanks for the note.

The rolling fragments of falling snow give the idea of an abstract picture.
Great nature shot Angky.

Yes, "interesting". You are right.
Not much else about it, but the way the snow treats itself, if nothing else, is interesting.
Thanks for the observation and note.

Nice shot Angky. The snow has that compacted/dense look as it has begun its spring melt. Nature's gift to California!

Gift to Calif..l!
Yes, indeed!
Only now it is overwhelming the place with melted snow!
Maybe I should capture some shots of water inundating everything!
Thanks for the good note!
