To my surprise, the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds arrived in our area last week. So far I have seen only one male and one female, but they have taken to the feeders. A few shots here: Enjoy.

Your shots are really great!
I like especially the last one with the bird sitting.
I have put out a feeder this year, but no birds at all are interested in it.

Thank you for your nice comments, Angky. From a few years ago, I noticed that I had my feeders up and no birds were showing up. Later in the summer they began to show up. I believe someone told me that they were probably new offspring from revisiting birds. I guess that have to branch out and find their own food sources. Be sure to change the juice periodically. It doesn't take too long to turn to vinegar. Good luck.

Nice work, Mike. I especially like the third one with the beam of light focused on the bird.

very interesting and rare serial photos, hummingbirds are known for their very fast wing beats, the number 2 shows very well this feature.
Great shots Mike.

Thanks, Jer. That beam of light might have helped give that image the best focus. Shooting TAV with the K-5IIs, I have to keep my shutter speed and ISO within limits to control noise.

Thank you, Loris. Image 2 does show that motion blur well. I think that is was shot at 1/320 of a second. You have to shoot at a much faster shutter speed to freeze the action. Thanks for you nice comments.

Glad to see that your hummingbirds have arrived. Terrific series of images, and that second one shows the brilliant red of the male's throat feathers so well.

Thank you much, Todd. To capture that red throat color, you must have decent light and the right shot angle. For me that means being lucky. I don't think that I have seen the male since the day of this shot.😊
