LB Thrasher & Killdeer - VERY up close and personal...
Posted By: Marc Langille, 01-02-2009, 04:38 PM

Today's subjects: getting clean and getting messy. Taken with the Sigma 500/4.5 and that other camera... no cropping...

Long-billed Thrasher:

EXIF

Killdeer:

EXIF

Both taken while in a blind. The first was in the hunting compound at a man-made watering hole, the second at the shallow lake where you may have seen my Great Egret images in the past. Obviously they are both very close - possibly 15 feet or less away.

Cheers,
Marc

Thanks Dave!

Now what's this about a common denominator...?? I don't resemble any denominations....

Cheers,
Marc

Thank you séamuis - you humble me with those words. That shot and your comments tell me that I've done well.

I still can't believe you didn't want to post your best bird shot of 2008 you have some real killers, but that is in the past.

Great shots.

Clearly a blind is the only way to get consistently close to these things. How long did you have to wait.

ps.

now for some fun
in reading some of the comments back and fourth,
- 7 pound lens, obvoiulsy it is too light someone here posted shots with the SMC-A 1200 (I think it was 20 pounds) now that is a real lens.
- people want you to get closer??? and you said you had problems with OOF due to being under 12 feet, maybe bigger is not better, forget the 7 pound lens, go out with your 28mm, I'm sure you will not be able to get TOO close
