Nature Crop of the day : Sunset and a fence post with the HD DA 70 mm f/2.4 LTD around f/8

I kept trying my new silver HD DA 70 mm lens @ around f/8, with a far-away picture of a sunset and a close-up of a fence post. Very sharp when focused carefully, particularly the post in 3/4 light. I think it performs sublimely at closer range.

My father didn't like my "FENCE POST" pictures when I was 15. He wanted me to take pictures of people so I could sell them and make some money. Fortunately, I never sold any "portraits" to anybody (except for 2 or 3 mariage photo sets for friends and my brother) but I still take pictures of fence posts at 70 ... LOL !

Fence posts are good things to take pictures of--I do it a lot.
And that lens is a good one for it.

I have been trying the lens on a variety of subjects and I have come to think this lens has been optimized for portraiture. It seems weak for gathering far-away details below f/8 but shines with close range subjects between f/4.5 and f/6.3. I will try it more this summer in order to make an enlightened opinion.
