Outstanding Floral Image. Excellent use of light, just enough to bring out the true beauty of this awesome Rose. Many, many thanks for sharing.

Tony.

The rose blends the colors.

I took 3 photos with various exposures, and oddly, this one with very odd EXIF turned our slightly -- insignificantly -- better than the others. I would not have selected the combo of ISO, shutter speed, and aperture, using manual settings selected here. I did select aperture and shutter speed, but not ISO. I took 3 pics, one each using auto, TAV, and manual settings. This one on TAV oddly worked best. All were so similar, as to almost be indistinguishable.

Tony.
This was taken in what I though was bright sunlight, but maybe in late afternoon after shadows set in. I was surprised how little light entered,

Many thanks for the kind comment.

Your note of "dream come true-grandiflora" obviously has significance, since you are a rose specialist.
I know very little about roses, but I surely am impressed by the excellent beauty you captured in this one!
As to the camera settings, I have often been puzzled by how one image will be just a bit better than the others when the camera's settings were left the same.
Probably, I assume, has to do with the slight variations caused by manufacturing process tolerances that allow slight variations in the light when the shutter and aperture operate.
Sometimes those variations are exactly what it takes to get the perfect shot.

I think I used two different settings on the three photos I took. This one had a 1/3200 shutter speed, 1600 ISO, and f/6.3 aperture. I didn't control the ISO on this photo. If I did it over, I would have a slower shutter and lower ISO. That said, the quality of the three photos I took was very similar. This one looked best of the three because of the angle.

"Dream Come True" is the name of this specific hybrid rose. Grandiflora is a type of rose that usually grows to 4'-6' high in the Midwest, and usually flowers in clusters. Grandifloras are distinguished from hybrid teas which usually bloom one per stem.

This bloom was the first bloom of the year, and it was the "terminal bud." The "terminal bud is the first bloom in the center of the cluster. If you exhibit a grandiflora at a rose show you clip out the center bloom, i.e terminal bud, which will be old and blown out, and show the high-centered fresher flowers that cluster around it.

Thanks for this info! I had no idea of such things.
There sure is a lot to be learned in any specialty field, once one begins to investigate it.
So, it appears that this rose is not one to be entered into a show, but it is nonetheless, when caught at its peak, a predictor of what is to come.
Good image you captured of it.

Your conclusions are correct. I live in a small town and haven't exhibited roses in many years. I planted most of my rose bushes alongside a sidewalk where my neighbors and walkers can enjoy them.
