35mmFilmUser shot for you...
Posted By: clarenceclose, 03-17-2007, 08:54 PM

Marc,
This is a short crop of the same sunset in pano from a different angle.
The original was created from 11 vertical shots and stitched.
I suspect this one is about 7 vertical shots wide.
Too big and it won't fit. Hope there are no .jpg artifacts on your screen from this small shot.
Enjoy.

A great pano. Pity I still have not found opportunities here to do a pano. Magic hour photo

Clarence and James - can you explain how you pull off a vertical pano? Obviously a tripod is involved?

Great shot(s?), BTW.

Correct a tripod is involved, it also must have the capability to flip the camera into the vertical position and pan. Start on the right or left and take shots across the horizon overlapping 15%-20% on each shot. Try to use 50mm if possible as you will get less distortion. Shot rather quickly as things change in a short time. Take a reading then set camera in manual mode with chosen settings, turn off AWB and use either RAW or chose an appropriate fixed white balance such as daylight. Pull it into your favorite panorama editing software and have at it....then see all the mistakes you made. Good luck & have fun.

No artifacts at all either... I use PTGUI - what did you use?

I like it - very soothing, and great colors... thank you.

Regards,
Marc

Thanks for the lesson clarence. I'll try to give that a go within the next couple weeks. The weather was so nice today, but a bit too windy today.
