Thanks Mike! I really like prickly pear, and I might plant one of these at my new house. It kind of fits in here in Texas.

I've read that the spines of the prickly pear are actually leaves.
This plant shows leaves in exactly the places that spines usually appear.
Interesting to see the verification of what I've read.
