Flash Shots of Hummingbirds (second round)
Lens: Pentax 55-300 PLM Camera: Pentax KP Photo Location: Yard ISO: 1600 Shutter Speed: 1/50s Aperture: F8
Posted By: MikeNArk, 07-21-2023, 03:36 PM

A few days ago, I attempted some more flash photos of hummingbirds. In this effort, I forgot to set my iso level below 1600. I had intended to try at 200 and 100 iso settings. Consequently I had more noise than I wanted and had to work at processing the images more. The first two were shot at a shutter speed of 1/50 of a second and the second two were shot at 1/25 of a second. Here are the results. Comments appreciated.

A real fine effort here, Mike. What I have found to work very well with the built-in flash are: 1/125s, f8~11, auto white balance and the lowest ISO setting. Manual Priority works very well as does

Shutter Priority. Again, very good work and many thnx for sharing.

Thanks for your comments and recommended settings, Tony. I will likely give those a try. Looking through photos that I took recently, I did try 1/125 in one set of photos that I just posted.

Thank you very much, rhanz. I went a little high on the iso so they required a little work, but the colors were bright.
