Sea of clouds...
Posted By: heliphoto, 01-04-2009, 09:16 PM

Shot this today on my way to socal for work... Actually, I took a fair drive out of the way up into the mountains to find an overlook where I could shoot back into the sea of low clouds which is the San Joaquin Valley of California in winter. I found the view from this point looking essentially north.

Shot hand held with the K20D and the Tamron 70-200/2.8 @ 200mm.

Stunning and unique. Great B&W converstion as well. Maybe just a shade dark in the foreground but that's no issue.

love the shot.

Thanks Peter. I played with lightening the foreground shadow a bit, and some detail can be retained but I found it busy and distracting... I preferred it this way. Glad you like it. I drove around a lot trying to find an overlook and got lucky to get that view.

You have the advantage of the original file and on second look, you're right Best the way it is. Great shot and worth the trouble to get the right shooting spot.

Thanks Peter. That's not to say that it couldn't be improved by someone with more mastery or someone who wanted to spend more time (I spent about 10min playing with settings in Lr to get these results.

Come on over. If we can get California to light up again next summer like last, we'll put you to work .
