Gorgeous shot of that Sacred Kingfisher. Beautiful colors and excellent detail. What distinguishes the "Sacred" Kingfisher from others?

You had your boat in precisely the perfect location for that shot!
And the K3-iii and lens put it together perfectly.
Or you did!

.

We kinda know each other. You probably won't remember, that. I just wanted to say that, this image, is a defining moment for you, sir.
You've been practicing. And this image, it's beautiful. It deserves a bump.
We go so far back that the dragonfly and a couple other images, were just not right, which I snertingly , pointed out. I got fussed at by saying something about it.
You got critiqued, you got mad, i got screamed at on the net with a warning. All of it made you want to do better. And , you have.

At the end of the day, I was trying to help you because, I saw some . slight, maybe, potential with determination. But that was a long time ago,
And Looky , here! I was right!
Be well.

Thanks Mike, but gosh - how to answer that question? I mean, there are over 100 species of kingfishers worldwide - 116 according to Wikipedia! Australia (where I am) have 10.
But colouring and colour patterns are the first obvious differences; length of tail; size (we have the so-called Little Kingfisher here in DownUnder, and of course, the Kookaburra, which is the largest kingfisher).

Check out these two sites, just for starters:

Heh, credit to Alex, my boat pilot, for getting the boat in the "perfect location". Thanks for the comment.

It's still a really nice shot of a really cool bird. I use the same camera and lens and have learned to get the most out of the 150-450 the answer is shutter speed. I try to never go below 1/1600 if at all possible and target either 1/2000 or 1/3200. I know if I go down to even 1/1000, I'll see a decrease in quality. I pretty much always hand hold it. If I am on a monopod, I can go a little slower.
